Kitchen Nook - Finally!

I have finally got around to scheduling an electrician to install the light fixture in the kitchen nook (Along with a few others around the house). I had selected the last light fixture I featured in a previous post here. The fixture is brushed nickel but it looks like a much warmer metal in this photo. I'm really pleased with how much larger this space looks and feels now.....
This is how I had set-up this area when we moved in. It felt closed-in with the wood shelf on the opposite wall that you can see a part of in the photo. I didn't like the dark square table in this space either.

My Kijiji find! This old wrought iron table and chairs set was perfect for what I had in mind.
I wasn't sure about all of the scrolling detail of the table and chairs but I persevered. I ordered a piece of tempered glass for the top and recovered the chairs. Andrew spray painted the chairs and  table for me.
A temporary set-up with my outdoor Lacko chairs from Ikea.
Changing the light fixture from the track light to the lantern-style chandelier made such a difference. My advice on chandelier size always choose something larger that you think you need - trust me!
A little melange of art from some vacations we've taken. Two prints from Maui, a pen & ink from New York by Albert, (an artist on the Brooklyn Bridge), and a photo of the original Starbucks in Seattle.
Finally a nice space to enjoy the garden while having breakfast or just sipping a nice cup of French coffee!
Voila!

Spring Table

So nice to finally see some spring flowers blooming, even if they aren't outside! We hosted Easter Sunday brunch last weekend. I usually set-up a couple of tables and the bar if needed rather than trying to fit everyone at one table. A little sneak peak of the breakfast nook area (so far) as well....

Nook Lighting

Source
Has it been a year since I first posted about our breakfast nook update/redo? I admit it, I do get distracted during projects and tend to drop them part way through when I'm no longer interested. This mini project is finally nearing completion. I've just ordered a light fixture (Final selection to be shown in the reveal post!) and hope to have it installed shortly after it's delivered. Here are my final five lighting selections:

Breakfast Nook Redo

Above is our breakfast nook in it's current state. It's nice, but a bit of a snooze, non? I plan to switch the table & chairs to a black wrought iron set I bought on Kijiji last summer. The wrought iron set is being stored on our garage and I didn't take a photo of it after I brought it home. The set looks very similar to this white one:

I haven't decided yet if a small banquet/settee against the back wall will work or not. I like the idea because it would break-up the look of all the scrolly ironwork by adding some variance of texture. The table may be too small for a banquet, so I may end up using only the four chairs. I will have to experiment a bit. I've found these images for some ideas and inspiration:

I plan to recover the chairs in this Moroccan trellis fabric that I already have:

Also, I think this armillary-style chandelier in a small size could be interesting in the space:

Finally, we will be replacing our sliding patio doors with French doors which will add a little more interest as well.

Here's hoping this little project will keep me occupied through the winter months and keep those winter blues away!
