Guest Room Re-do!

We have a cosy  guest room for one in our house, which I have featured before here. I like to think of it as a quaint little room that could be in a bed and breakfast. It's such a relaxing little oasis, that we often use for reading, or, when one of us isn't feeling well. Somehow that room makes you feel just a bit better.

I changed out the Ikea Hemnes dresser (it sold in 15 minutes in Kijiji! I had over a dozen offers!) for a dark wood armoire originally in our living room. I painted it in Farrow and Ball's 'Skimming Stone'. I did not enjoy the painting project at all. Thank goodness for Andrew who helped me though mid-way and encouraged me to finish it. The guest room color is also F&B in 'Bone'. I think the color of the armoire and walls work nicely together.

We call the guest room, the 'bird room' because of the framed bird prints, and there are many neighborhood birds flying past the window now and then. Bertie (our big cat) thinks it's his room. It has become his favorite place to sleep at night. So, sometimes one of us has to share the bed with the cat!

Before and After: Guestroom

The evolution of the room has been slow but steady. You may recall where we last left off....Here!

Oh my. A cluttered mess. It took us a while to sort things out in here. Actually, it was our cleaner,  home-organizer extraordinaire who unpacked and cleaned-up this damn mess. Yes, we love her.

I chose Farrow and Ball's 'Bone' for this room which was a welcome change to the deep gold that was throughout the house before. Its soft neutral green was just the back-drop that I was envisioning.

I didn't want to hang a mirror over the dresser. Instead, I wanted to hang something unexpected, out of proportion and fun. If a guest needs a mirror for dressing, there is a large mirror hanging on the wall behind the bedroom door.

It's cozy, non? Snuggle-up this weekend! It's still cold out there!

Mom's Guest Room Update

Back in March I had posted some inspiration for my mom's guest room. I have finally convinced her to let me do a quick inexpensive make-over. My Aunt was coming from Seattle to visit her, so the timing was perfect. Would you believe I don't have a 'before' photo? I forgot to take one! Anyhow, the guest room had become a catch-all room to store things that really didn't belong there. With $300.00 to spend, here's what I came up with! I call it 'The Nantucket Room'.
