Morning Garden Moments

I so enjoy checking-up on the back garden with an espresso in-hand on a quiet weekend morning. The dappled sun inserts bright pockets of uplifting light throughout the garden...

A relaxing reading corner and bench on the deck catches all of the morning sun. Such a perfect spot to start the day.

Another project completed by our outstanding contractor, Iron Owl. Justin and his team were able to squeeze us into the schedule and hammered out this beautiful Roman Euro stone path in just two days! Thank you again, Iron Owl! It is such a relief to see this area that was formerly dead grass (we tried and tried) turned into some thing attractive and useful. There is more room on the driveway now, and the path leads straight to the garden gate. We love it!

Deck Completion & A Woodland Garden

Shall I remind you again what the 'monster' deck looked like before? Now that it has been fully completed, the comparison is quite something.

We were so pleased with our contract or, Iron Owl, and their work. We could not have envisioned a better result!

We had a few days before the glass would be installed, so we worked on planting a woodland garden in the dirt space that was exposed by reducing the deck size. Initially, we thought it would be  almost impossible to dig in this area, but it was quiet easy and only took us a couple of hours. The best part: some ladies walking by asked for my business card. They thought I was a gardener for hire! It made my day!

Bertie's kitty gate turned-out beautifully. Justin, owner of Iron Owl, created the gate so that Bertie could not get to the deck from the backyard area when we take him out for his romps in the back garden. In the past, he had been sneaking onto the deck and escaping onto the front street. Yes, if he really wanted to he could jump over it; but, he seems uninterested and it's an obstacle for him to consider.

Lord of the Manor

I think I would have to say, that my favorite 'accessory' at home is a living, breathing, cuddly pillow named, Bertie. I have introduced him before; he is our rescue cat that came to live with us last February at two years old. While he does not match the furniture (Ahem...Black hair everywhere!) he matches us purrfectly with his sweet and loving disposition. Bertie has certainly settled in nicely and has made our home his own.

So, who rules the roost around your home? The dog? the kids? The cat?!

This weekend I completed all of my Christmas shopping and even put out our Christmas lights (No, they are not on yet).

New Addition

As mentioned in one of my previous posts, we have a new addition to our house. The day before Valentine's day we brought home a new little buddy; a rescue cat named, 'Bertie'. He is a very sweet and outgoing cat who just loves to be around people. This new little buddy is actually not so little weighing-in at over fourteen pounds at only two years old! Which brings me to our second new addition...a replacement for the armoire in our living room!

I had been considering replacing it with something lower. A sideboard perhaps or a shorter armoire. And then apparently Bertie tried to jump on top of it. Poor guy hooked his front paws over the top crown moulding façade and couldn't quite get himself up without resorting to the power of his back legs (and claws).

Andrew helped me dismantle the armoire and move it into the garage. My cousin is refinishing it for their  laundry room to use as storage. I think it would look beautiful in chalk paint with crystal knobs.

After a quick trip to Bondars, I selected this solid wood dresser but hated the cold, generic hardware. So, I selected new hardware at Banbury Lane and settled on Oriental-style handles made by Top Knobs, in a warm bronze finish.

The result is far more interesting and the cat agrees!

~ Have you considered adopting a new buddy? Go for it! They'll be furever grateful!~
