The Beach Down Under

It would seem there is no better inspiration for decorating a home than nature. The scenes, colors, scents and textures together become an intoxicating blend for the senses that we just can't resist echoing in the home.  That may be through real or faux greenery, a 'beachy' color scheme or even simply a scented candle to take you back to the water's edge...

From Four Mile Beach to Coogee to Bronte, the beaches of east coast Australia were breathtaking. I returned home wanting to accent our home solely with shades of blue, green, white, silver and sandy browns.

And after the beach!....

Are you longing for some sun and sand right now?

Hope you have a great week ahead...

Into the Woods - Follow-up!

Before the cooler weather really starts to catch-up with us, I thought I would post some follow-up 'after' shots of sprucing-up my brother and sister-in-law's cozy cabin on their property in Bragg Creek. You can take a look at the original post here. I intentionally had a zero budget as they already had so many great accessories and furniture around their property.

Despite a zero budget, I couldn't resist picking up a couple of bright yellow potted mums. They were only $5.99 each so I thought, 'why not?' As a city dweller I would not have considered that the deer would eat them. They were delighted with the seasonal delicacy and ate them all up! Oops!

How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was the coldest and snowiest in 87 years!

Tree Trimming!

This year we decided to try something different - we cut down our own Christmas tree! We had so much fun and were quite satisfied with ourselves when we completed the decorating. I like to think the tree's quite honored to be adorned with glistening treasures and be the centerpiece to the occasion.

The house is filled with the scent of fresh and uplifting spruce. I think this will be a new tradition!

Hope you're almost ready for the 'big day' next week!

Winter Fantasy

Our Canadian Rockies are the ideal backdrop for a Christmas scene. Could these wintry scenes be any more gorgeous? Last weekend we attended a Christmas party held at the stunning Rimrock Hotel in Banff. We were treated to spectacular views from our room (see below). I snapped a few other breathtaking scenes including the renowned Banff Springs Hotel.

We're heading to the country to cut down our tree this weekend! So, some Christmas decorating posts are up next. Hope you're enjoying the festive season so far!

Wallpaper Fantasy

I'm feeling drawn to Graham & Brown's 'The New Wave Collective' wallpapers. Fresh and urban, the collection resonates elements of fantasy, nature and history. If I had a sleek London townhouse, I would choose 'Foxglove' (Above) for the breakfast room. The link to The New Wave Collective is here. Below is a selection of my favorites. Which ones are yours?
